was conceived in 2003 by a group of women who love to read. Our mission is to present women's words and their achievements. Having been so inspired by the many literary events we have attended over the years, we wanted to create our own extraordinary event in the Los Angeles area, one that promotes the writings of women authors and inspires more women to share their stories through the written word.
Leading the way is Sheila Irani Lewin. In addition to being an avid reader, Sheila also owns a successful advertising agency focusing on social issues. She has spearheaded the Women & Words committee, which includes Roslyn Fanello, Linda Friedman, Teresa Jones, Denise Neumann and Joanna Beacom.
Thanks to your generosity our 2006 event raised $1500 for The Women's Care Cottage, a non-profit shelter and service agency for homeless women and children. We look forward to another inspiring day, planned for Saturday, September 29, 2007 at The Olympic Collection in West Los Angeles and we truly hope to see you there along with your daughters, granddaughters, mothers, grandmothers and friends. We need your help in getting the word out. We know that they'll thank you for inviting them. Remember we are offering the discounted fee of $65 per person until July 31, 2007 to encourage you to register early.
A note from the Executive Director:
Our 2006 event gave us a powerful and unforgettable day. The authors, Mary Gordon, Sonia Nazario, Denise Nicholas, Nina Revoyr, Karen Stabiner and Susan Straight shared from their hearts, describing their passion for the written word, the backgrounds of their stories and their daily writing challenges.
Your comments and suggestions play an important role. You suggested more time for questions and less break time before the questions begin. Those and other comments will help us in our planning. Our plans include having six women authors, a Q&A panel, and a delicious breakfast and lunch, all to be held once again at The Olympic Collection in West Los Angeles on Sept. 29, 2007 from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Another exciting addition to Women & Words for 2007, will be our March 3rd Little Women (and Men) and Words event which will be a fundraiser for public schools with six children book authors. We’ll have more information on these events shortly on this web site.

We are proud to announce that The Westside Children's Center, a community service since 1987 helping young children achieve their optimal growth and development, will be our 2007 fund raising recipient.
